Thomas Piketty, O Capital no (...)

“Political liberty,” what are we to understand by that? Perhaps the individual’s independence of the State and its laws? No; on the contrary, the individual’s subjection in the State and to the State’s laws... Political liberty means that the polis, the State, is free; freedom of religion that religion is free, as freedom of conscience signifies that conscience is free; not, therefore, that I am free from the State, from religion, from conscience, or that I am rid of them. It (...)

É lama do mundo. Aquieta-te, mas não creias, Uma outra vez! (Querer, nosso, o fado Paga-se em morte). Despreza-te, por fim, E à natureza, e ao (...)

“Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards people whom we personally dislike.”   "The brain is heavily influenced by genes. But from birth through young adulthood, the part of the human brain that most defines us (frontal cortex) is less a product of the genes with which you started life than of what life has thrown at you. Because it is the least constrained by genes and most sculpted by experience. This must be so, to be the supremely complex social species that we are. (...)

“you must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame; how could you rise anew if you have not first become ashes?”   “Silence is worse; all truths that are kept silent become poisonous.”   “No shepherd and one herd! Everybody wants the same, everybody is the same: whoever feels different goes voluntarily into a madhouse.”   “You look up when you wish to be exalted. And I look down because I am (...)

“I know that our efforts all come to nothing. I know the end of us all is nothing, I know that at the end of Time, the reward of our toil will be nothing— and again nothing. I know that our ideals, even those we achieve, will vanish in the eternal darkness of oblivion and final non-being. There is no hope, none, in my heart.
